Topps released information today that their upcoming 2012 Topps Chrome Football release would have some redemptions in it. However, Topps decided to sweeten the deal by adding a pack of Blue Wave Refractors with each redemption card that is redeemed from the product. Their release states 9 of the cards in the set will be in redemption format. Hopefully this addition helps sooth the sting for the collectors who don’t get live hits in their boxes.

One of the most anticipated products of the year, 2012 Topps Chrome Football, is set to hit shelves next Friday November 9th! This years hobby product promises to be one of the best ever, loaded with on-card autographs, autographed patch cards, dual autographe and triple autographed cards! In addition the uber popular ’65 Tall Boys, the iconic ’84 design and classic 1957 card have all been chromed and signed on card! Topps Chrome is driven by rookies and this years rookie class have been outstanding, this products subject list is loaded and top rookies including RG3, Andrew Luck, Ryan Tannehill, Trent Richardson, Doug Martin, Brandon Weeden, Justin Blackmon, Kendall Wright and many others have all already hard signed their Chrome cards and they look great!

We have made a huge effort on this years Topps Chrome FB to focus on on-card autographs, while we have secured the majority of players and the top rookies to sign on-card, we have struggled to have all players sign in timely manner. As a result this years Topps Chrome FB in the hobby will include a higher percentage of redemptions vs. what we typically would like, the following rookies will be signing shortly but will all be redemptions in Topps Chrome Football Dwayne Allen, LaMichael James, Bernard Pierce, Russell Wilson, Mark Barron, Dre Kirkpatrick, Stephen Hill, Brian Quick, Matt Kalil

For those collectors receiving a redemption card of these subjects, we have created a special bonus pack for you that you will receive when your autograph is returned. Each redeemed autograph will be accompanied with a 4 card pack of exclusive Topps Chrome Football Blue Wave Refractor Rookie Parallels. There are 110 different rookie cards in all including 10 new subjects that are not found in the base product including Alfred Morris, Josh Gordon, Daryl Richardson, Brandon Bolden, Bobby Wagner, Vontaze Burfict, Jorvorskie Lane, Greg Zuerlein, K, Joseph Morgan, Rod Streater, Bryce Brown and Damaris Johnson, In addition, we will also randomly insert special autographed Topps Chrome rookie cards of standout Redskins running back Alfred Morris into these packs , these autos are not found in the base Topps Chrome product, late breaking deal allowed us to add to these special redemption packs!

The hunt is on.

Panini announced today that they have inserted so super short print variations in their 2011 Contenders Football release. These variations are only on the on-card Rookie Photo Shoot cards, but each one has a small and unique twist to find the variation. Unlike last years, where it was a simple variation in the pose, this year – you have to work for it to find the differences. Early indications also are looking like these variations have a very limited printed run.

Below, I have made found a few of the variations and tried to make it a little easier to notice the differences. As more of these variations surface, I will be posting more photos.

The 2011 Contenders Football product released one week ago today, so I decided to take a look at what some of the most popular selling cards were from the set, so far.

The table below shows a comprehensive list of total amount of Contenders autos sold, the high, the low, and the average price. 12 of the 135 rookie autographs have not surfaced on eBay as of today. 22 of the 135 are currently selling for more than $50 on average, and 41 of the 135 are selling for more than $20 on average.

In the coming weeks Panini should be releasing the Short Print list for the set, so it will be interesting to see where the prices go from there.

Every year with Panini releases their Contenders Football product, the speculation around which autographed rookie tickets will be short printed begin to pop up. Last year, a number of the perceived short prints from the hobby release, became common inserts after the product hit the retail store shelves. That could be exactly what we are going to see again for this year, although, Panini has not confirmed if they will be doing 2011 Contenders in retail.

Below is a sortable table of all of the Rookie Ticket Autographs in the product and a corresponding number of current and closed auction so far on eBay. I put this together to attempt to get a better picture of which cards may short printed, and which others were the super short prints. As of today, there are still 11 cards that have not surfaced on eBay – which is leading me to believe some have been held back for the retail product.

I will be updating this list through the next few weeks with updated sales and listings – hopefully this can give all of my readers a little heads up on how many of their cards are actually in the marketplace.

Below are two Adrian Peterson Autographed Rookies from 2007 Bowman Chrome. At first glance, both look nearly identical. Both look to contain a certified autograph from Topps, which typically lends itself even more creditability.

Both of these cards also feature a Topps certified authentic sticker on the back of the card, once again extending ones perception of a legit card. Up until 2009, these stickers were placed on the rear of cards as shown in the image below:

The fact is, one of these is a blatant fake, and one is an actual pack-issued, certified autograph. Can you tell which one is the fake? If you can’t, don’t worry, you aren’t alone. These fakes have been selling for good money on eBay to other unsuspecting buyers.

Let’s take a look at where the sticker autographs are placed on the front of each of the cards. As you can see card on the right has a small opaque window over the players image and below the sticker autograph on the front of the card. This is the tell-tale criteria for identifying if you have an authentic, pack-issued, certified autograph from the set.

As you can see, there is a small gap of a lighter shaded area surrounding the autograph, presumably so that the machine or person who applied the autographs to the cards had an indication of where the sticker belonged on the front of the card.

I have lightened up the areas on the two cards to show the area that I am talking about.

There are possibly other 2007 Bowman Chrome Football fake autographs on the market, but the Adrian Peterson version is the most commonly faked. Hopefully this article can arm you with a little more knowledge when you are looking to buy one for your collection.

1. Tom Brady

After his Monday night assault, the reigning NFL Most Valuable Player, saw his stock and prices of cards reaching the same historic levels as his Monday-night performance. Tom Brady is a once-in-a-generation quarterback and has a tremendous following from his crazed New England fans. Mix that with his three Super Bowl rings and dramatic performances he is able to pull off, and you now understand why the demand and price of his cards are so high.

2. Cam Newton

Cam Newton began his NFL career on the same field where he ended his collegiate one and was spectacular. His 422 yards passing are a record for any rookie in his NFL opener. The No. 1 pick in the draft who had struggled at times in the preseason, completed 24-of-37 passes for 422 yards and two touchdowns with one interception. Two of his superfractor’s from 2011 products sold over the weekend following his performance. His 2011 Topps Finest Superfractor sold for $3,101.99, while his 2011 Topps Platinum Patch Auto Superfractor sold for $2,500.00.

3. Randall Cobb

Cobb, a second-round draft pick out of Kentucky, caught a touchdown from Rodgers and ran a kickoff back 108 yards for a score in the third quarter — tying an NFL record for the longest kickoff return in history. Prices of his 2011 Topps Finest Patch Auto jumped from $8.00 to $56 in a matter of days.

4. Matthew Stafford

The third-year quarterback, who’s struggled to stay on the field early in his pro career, threw for 305 yards and three touchdowns. Stafford, who was not sacked, led four scoring drives of at least 70 yards.
